The engineering office ondae was founded in 2004 by Thomas Pfeuti. He graduated from the Technical University of Karlsruhe (now KIT) with a diploma or master’s degree in electro-optics.

The name ondae (abbreviation for Optical Non-Destructive Analysis Engineering) stems from the original aim of replacing existing measurement technology in life science research, which can influence or destroy the object to be analysed in a damaging way, with less or non-damaging technologies with low optical power.

The background to this was developments such as the SRUPE-DS (Spectrally Resolved Ultraweak Photon Emission Detection System) measuring system, which is used in skin research to draw conclusions about oxidative stress in the living skin layers by means of spectrally resolved measurement of decay curves of UV or chemically stimulated skin.

Contracts for optical sensor technology in the field of machine vision and led to a focus on the development of optical systems for imaging and illumination. Projects in the automotive and aerospace sectors brought experience and skills in tolerance analyses, manufacturability and series production capability.

In 2017, the engineering office was transformed into the entrepreneurial company Ondae Ingenieurbüro UG (haftungsbeschränkt) with the founder as managing partner.

Thomas Pfeuti was appointed as a lecturer at Wedel University of Applied Sciences in 2019, where he leads the ‘Technical Optics’ course.
